October 2007 Vintage Clothing & Textile Auction

Institutional collections represented in this sale included those from the Cooper-Hewitt Museum(NY), The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (CA), Shippensburg University (PA), a major Northeastern university collection and a New Haven County (CT) Historical Society. In addition, we sold choice additions from several American and European estates and private collections, including the first offerings from the estate of Millie Curtis. Washington socialite Millie Curtis collected clothing for almost sixty years and founded the private Museum of Costume in St. Michaels, Maryland.

Day 1 features included: lace banquet cloth with scenes of Venice, Heirloom bed and table linens including lace curtain panels, handmade antique laces and trims, handmade lace banquet cloths, Normandy spreads, boudoir shams, 18th & 19th C laces, fine handmade lace wedding veils, flounces, shawls, and yardage, Mariano Fortuny fabrics (one example 10 yards), embroidered & lamé shawls, quilts, coverlets, large beaded bag collection, 16th & 17th  C  brocade and voided velvets, woven & printed paisleys, export shawls, large amount of costume jewelry, important 19th C doll collection including wooden 1830s fashion doll , large quantity of French homespun linen sheets, much more…

DAY 2 sale highlights include:  1930s Lanvin Black Lace Evening Gown with Italian Countess provenance, a beaded Atelier Versace jumpsuit worn by Whitney Houston, a 1920s Pearly Queen button ensemble, ladies whites, early 20th C lingerie, Irish Lace Coat, 19th C corsets, 1920s & 1930s lame, beaded, sequined, printed and velvet dresses, five 1950s Flamenco dancer costumes, 1961 debutant ball gown with long train, 19th C fashion  accessories, fancy tea gowns,  elaborate Civil War & bustled ball gowns, children’s day & party wear, Hermes Alligator bag and more

Designers featured include Pucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Worth, Missoni, Bill Blass, Balenciaga, Beene, Paraphernalia, Courreges, Betsey Johnson, Trigere, Moschino, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Donna Karan,  Versace, Gucci, Chanel, etc.

The sale was held in two sessions.

Session I - Friday October 26th :

Bryony Thomasson rural French/English textile collection, uncataloged, individual & large trade lots.

Noon - Catalog sale including all fabrics, textiles, linens, lace, 19th C. doll collection, jewelry, Asian & African textiles, Fortuny Fabric.

Session II - Saturday October 27th 10AM:

Women's, men's, children's clothing, fashion accessories.
