Our November Historic Fashion & Textile auction in New York City was full of surprises. The 420 lot catalog of rare clothing, textile objects and Kuomintang medals come from many American museum collections, estates and private collections.
Some of the featured items included a spectacular fruit coat fashioned from a lamé print by French modernist artist Raoul Dufy, a very rare c. 1850 2-piece yachting outfit from Hingham, MA, a 1760 Robe a l’Anglaise red damask gown, a 1930’s Jean Patou Evening Gown, 19th C. corsets and bonnets, a Jumlo button tunic from Pakistan, Turkish caftans, Cheongsams, Chinese robes, & other ethnic clothing.
Lace, paisleys, silk lingerie, hats, shawls, Civil War dresses, 19th C. printed cotton & wool day dresses, a 1954 beaded gown made for cabaret singer Eartha Kitt, 1970 mod rock & roll stage clothes from rock legend Edgar Winter, fabulous 1930s clothing from radio star Jessica Dragonette, beaded & printed 1920’s flapper dresses.
COUTURE from McQueen, Dior, Balenciaga, Cardin, Versace, Chanel, Ceil Chapman, Norell, Halston, Gaultier, Galanos, Givenchy + General luxury goods from Hermes, Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci.
The sale also featured rare and important collection of medals from Kuomintang General Jiang Dingwen.
